It should be noted, no boy has ever asked this, in fact most boys love my long hair. I have always had long hair and don't intend to ever cut it. Do any other girls find that they have had similar experiences?

There was a girl in my class at school who had really long (butt-length) hair, and she used to wear it in braids every single day. Lots of the girls used to tell her she should be more adventurous, which when you've got really long hair usually means going for the big chop!

It's possible that the other girls are jealous of your hair, as other answers have suggested, but I think it's more likely that they're just being normal young women, interested in fashion etc., and wanting to encourage you to a new look.

I agree wholeheartedly with other answers though, that if you do decide to cut your hair shorter, it should be because it's what you want to do, not because other people tell you you're daggy or boring or whatever. There are some alternatives to just going short - you could always try having a few inches off the ends and some long layers - it's a way of getting a more healthy, modern and versatile look, while not losing the security of the length. And I can guarantee it's easier to wear out loose than if it's really long and all the same length. The boys would still love it, too.

It might also depend on what age you are, too. Getting really long hair cut into a shorter style (even a medium length cut) will usually make you look older and more sophisticated, which many girls want to do.

Boys usually are more traditional when it comes to long hair on girls - there's a lot of deep-seated psychology and symbolism there. I say, if you can carry long hair off, if it's healthy and you love it, then keep it. You can always experiment with shorter looks in the future if that's what you want to do.
