Here is a website that gives full details of how to do some of the curling techniques, waves, and styles. It gives full instructions as into how it is to be done for your type of hair.

Just remember that is will take time to get these patterns down. But after time you will be able to do them in your sleep. Just remember that your hair needs to be wet with styling lotion (gel) to achieve this properly. I would suggest if you are gonna attempt pin curls or finger waves to go to your nearest Sally's or Beauty Mart and get your self a box of setting pins (clips). This will helps prevent a damaged or kinked curl from bobby pins. Also look into getting or borrowing a head dryer. You must make sure you hair is totally dry before brushing it out.

Now for fine hair that won't hold hair or a snood. You have to make sure your gel is a firm put pliable gel. And you will need to have a good hair spray. I like Proforma by Matrix. I have used for over 12 years and it is the super glue of hairsprays. For your snood. In the areas were your snood clips or gets pinned to stay in place try back combing really good at the base of your hair right at the scalp. This will hold it in place and it will not slip out.

I hope you have good luck with acomplishing this. I have always loved the 30's and 40's do's.

A lot of women in the 40's had their hair in a french pleat, its a roll on the back of the head, like a sausage, they used to have a wavy fringe too.

In the 1940's they had a way of rolling their hair up, just to the nape of the neck. Even if your hair is thin, if you roll it, horizontally, maybe on one of those foam rollers, and pin it securely. The pinning might also help to secure a snood.

There was usually some height at the crown, so the final hairstyle looked quite elaborate, but was not too hard to do. Again, secure hair on top with clips, barrettes and pins. They used fancy ones, especially at night, and let them show.

My hair is long, but not that long. I like to braid my hair in a single braid, fairly loose, fasten the end of the braid with a covered rubber band (the kind that does not break the hair), then tuck the braid under itself or coil it at the back of my head and fasten with hair clips or whatever you call the ones with springs. The flat ones work well if you can find them.
